Scientists from the medical school Los Angeles, has studied brain structure 100 people, half of whom regularly practiced meditation. Over the age the volume of gray matter decreased in all subjects, but the people engaged in meditation, the decline was less significant.

This study was conducted with the aim to find a way to improve mental health, which gets worse with age.

The group of subjects consisted of people of different age categories, men and women from 24 to 77 years. Lovers of meditation was considered to be people who regularly meditated from 4 to 46 years, with an average experience of 20 years of practice. The brain of each participant underwent a study using magnetic resonance imaging. The results revealed a greater volume of gray matter in the group of lovers of meditation.

In fact, the result was very surprised scientists because they did not expect such a strong effect that has spread even on the part of the brain and all its space.

It should be noted that previously, scientists had no idea that lifestyle, genetics and personality can influence the level of human development so initially, did not dare to carry out a causal relationship between meditation and brain development.

Apart from preserving the health of the brain, meditation has a positive effect on the whole body. It reduces the risk of cancer, development of stress, and helps to support the immune system.
